The cheapest car in our fleet to run. The Yaris is a compact hybrid that uses around 3.5L/100km, parks almost anywhere in Perth, and is easy to drive if you haven’t driven in the city before.
Overview
If you’re mostly driving around the city and suburbs, you don’t need a big car. The Yaris is small enough to squeeze into tight CBD and Fremantle parking, and light enough on fuel that a tank lasts well beyond a week of normal driving. It has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, making 85kW combined. Toyota claims fuel use of around 3.3 to 3.5L/100km, which is among the lowest of any car you can hire. You fill it with regular unleaded and never plug it in. It’s an automatic with a CVT, so there are no gears to change. The 270-litre boot fits one large suitcase and a small bag, and the rear seats fold down if you need more space. It has a reversing camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a full set of Toyota safety features including autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist. It suits solo travellers, couples, and short trips. For a family with several suitcases, have a look at our larger cars and SUVs.
