Overview
The Model 3 is the car that made electric driving ordinary, and the current version is the most efficient one Tesla has built. Efficiency is the whole story here. The Long Range variant is rated at up to 750km on 18-inch wheels — the longest range Tesla has brought to Australia, and more than most petrol cars manage on a tank. For Western Australia that number matters more than it would anywhere else. Perth to Albany is around 420km. Perth to Esperance is roughly 700km. On a car with this range, those trips stop being charging exercises and become ordinary drives. It's quick as well, without making a point of it. The Long Range reaches 100km/h in about 5.2 seconds, and even the base car is brisk. There's no engine noise, no gear changes, and it slows itself when you lift off — after a day you stop using the brake pedal much at all in traffic. Inside it's minimal to the point of being a talking point: one central screen handles almost everything, and there's no key in the traditional sense. Allow ten minutes at handover and it becomes obvious quickly. It's a comfortable, quiet car over distance, which suits WA driving. Practically, it's a sedan with a conventional boot rather than a hatch, plus a front storage compartment where an engine would be. That's less versatile than the Model Y for bulky items, but there's plenty of room for luggage.
