A tilt tray loads what nothing else will. The deck hydraulically tilts to the ground and a winch drags the load on, so an unregistered car, a broken-down vehicle, a forklift or a piece of plant goes up without a ramp, a crane or a second machine.
Overview
The Hino 300 Series is the light-duty truck you see on every second Australian work site, and the tilt tray body is what makes this one specialised. Instead of a fixed deck you load over the side, the whole tray tilts hydraulically down to ground level. A winch pulls the load up the slope, the deck levels off, and the load gets chained down for the trip. That mechanism solves a specific set of problems. A car that won't start. An unregistered or damaged vehicle that can't be driven on the road. A forklift, scissor lift, mini excavator, generator or compactor that has to move between sites and can't drive itself there. A vehicle being collected after an incident. In every one of those cases, the alternative is a crane, a ramp and a lot of risk. The base truck is straightforward: a four-cylinder turbo-diesel, air-conditioned cab, and Hino's SmartSafe safety package on current models, which includes autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and vehicle stability control. Two things matter more than the spec sheet on a truck like this, and both are the hirer's responsibility. The first is the licence. At 8.5 tonnes GVM this is a Medium Rigid vehicle. Bring the right licence class or you can't take the truck — we check at collection, every time, without exception. The second is load restraint. A vehicle or a piece of plant on a tilt tray must be chained and rated correctly for the load, not just strapped and hoped for. If you haven't restrained a load like this before, ask us at collection and we'll walk you through it. There is no version of this that is worth rushing. Best for: vehicle transport and recovery, moving unregistered or non-running cars, machinery and plant relocation, equipment hire delivery, motorsport and event vehicle transport, dealership and auction movements. Not ideal for: general freight in an enclosed body, anything a van or ute already handles, drivers without an MR licence.
