Overview
There's a short list of cars that make people stop and look, and a shorter list that also fit five adults and their bags. The RS Q8 is on both. The engine is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 built by Audi Sport, and in performance specification it produces 471kW and 850Nm — the most powerful combustion engine Audi has put in a production car, and enough to run to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds. For context, that's quicker than the R8 supercar it shares a showroom with. It's also the vehicle that took the Nürburgring SUV lap record. What's more surprising is how civil it is when you're not asking anything of it. RS adaptive air suspension, quattro all-wheel drive with a sport differential and all-wheel steering mean it drives around town like a normal luxury SUV. On the freeway it's quiet. The drama is there when you want it and completely absent when you don't. The honest notes, and on a car at this value they matter more than usual. It runs 23-inch wheels on very low-profile tyres. This is a sealed-road vehicle only — unsealed roads are excluded under the rental agreement, and a single gravel road can write off wheels and tyres worth more than most hires. It takes 98 RON premium unleaded and the official 12.2L/100km figure is optimistic in real use. Budget accordingly. Terms on this vehicle are the strictest in our fleet: a higher minimum driver age, a substantial security bond, and the highest damage excess we hold. Excess reduction isn't optional in spirit — take it. Track, circuit and competitive use are excluded, and WA's anti-hoon laws apply with the same force here as anywhere. Best for: milestone occasions, weddings, hosting visitors properly, client travel where the vehicle is part of the message, anyone who wants the fastest thing available with a boot.
