A tipper turns a two-hour shovelling job into a thirty-second one. Load it, drive it, raise the body and the material is where you need it. This one is fitted for site work, so it can go where a standard hire truck can't.
Overview
The 2 tonne tipper is the workhorse of landscaping, civil work and site clean-ups. Soil, sand, gravel, rubble, mulch, demolition waste and green waste all go in the same body and come out the back without a shovel or a bobcat. Here's the thing almost nobody tells you before the first load, and it's worth knowing before you book. The body holds around 2.0 cubic metres. The payload is 2 tonnes. Those two numbers do not fill up at the same rate, because different materials weigh wildly different amounts: Mulch — roughly 350 to 500kg per cubic metre. Fill the body completely and you're around 700 to 1,000kg. Well within limit. Garden soil — roughly 1,200 to 1,500kg per cubic metre. About 1.3 to 1.6 cubic metres and you've hit 2 tonnes. Sand — roughly 1,500 to 1,800kg per cubic metre. Just over one cubic metre is your lot. Gravel — roughly 1,800 to 2,200kg per cubic metre. One cubic metre and the truck is full by weight, with the body barely half full by volume. So with anything dense, the tub looks half empty when you're already at the limit. Overloading a tipper is a fine, it wrecks the ride and the brakes, and it's the most common mistake people make on their first hire. When in doubt, take two trips. Three safety points we'd rather say here than at the gate. Never raise the body anywhere near overhead powerlines. Never tip on uneven or soft ground, because a raised body puts the centre of gravity high and tippers roll over more easily than people expect. And never drive with the body raised, not even a few metres. On the mine spec side, the fitout is there so the truck can work safely around heavy plant — visibility gear, communications and safety equipment. Mine spec is not one standard, though.
